CVYO Volunteer Musician Ambassador (MA) Guidelines
Necessary Forms: All MAs must complete the Release of Liability (signed by parent if under 18 years old) and the MA Information Forms online here.
Communication: You will receive an email when an opportunity to perform is available. Please let us know immediately if you are able to perform on that date, time and at the location. Also, we will need to know if you are interested in performing a solo in addition to the packet music or if you have your own group of CVYO musicians. Once we hear from you we will put together the group and confirm with you.
Please know that once you commit to a performance, it is difficult to manage last minute cancellations. Should you have an emergency or get sick, please email us immediately at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dress: It is not necessary to dress in concert dress for the MA outreach performances unless your group wants to. Please dress like you would for an audition, look like you care about where you are. Dress modestly and comfortably, with a collared shirt or dress.
Music Preparation: Many options are available when performing including solos, duets, small ensemble and packet music. When it is necessary to rehearse the music as a group before performing we will arrange for a rehearsal for the group either before or after your CVYO rehearsal on Thursdays, depending on the needs of the group. It is important that all participants know their parts as is it likely you will be the only person on the part in your group. Most of the pieces in the packets can be listened to online either on YouTube or at www.jwpepper.com. Soloists should know their music well. Accompaniment will not be available.
Music in the packets are at an elementary level and are designed so that all CVYO musicians can participate. Advanced players may be asked to play with less experienced players. When this happens, you have the opportunity to be a role model for the less experienced musician while bringing beauty to the pieces, no matter what the level. Not all pieces include violin III.
more advanced, contemporary quartet music is available on Dropbox
Our Mission: The mission of the CVYO Volunteer Musician Ambassador Program is to:
provide outreach to people in neighboring communities who cannot attend scheduled performances
to inspire and act as role models for young children and students
to give CVYO musicians the opportunity to perform in a public setting and in small ensembles
Please keep in mind that you will be representing the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra and remember that we are guests at all of the locations where we meet. Our conduct should always represent appreciation and respect for our hosts. Musicians can show this appreciation and respect by observing facility rules, staying in designated areas and conducting themselves in a courteous and polite manner.
THANK YOU for sharing your talent and time and for being an advocate for CVYO! We hope you have fun, meet new people and gain the satisfaction in the joy of giving.
