In 2007 he was a first prize winner of the Pasadena Showcase competition for brass instruments and a finalist in the International Trombone Association "Gagliardi" competition. That same year he was appointed principal trombone of the American Youth Symphony.
Sam played in the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestras throughout junior high and high school. CVYO was an invaluable experience and source of learning, equipping him with the skills necessary for becoming both a symphonic and chamber musician.
Sam is a graduate of the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music. He is currently serving as 2nd trombone with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and will began as co-principal with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in August, 2016!
